Ambrosian Library[ambrO´zhun] Pronunciation Key, founded c.1605 in Milan by Cardinal Federigo Borromeo. It became one of the earliest libraries to be opened to the public. The library's collection is rich in classical manuscripts, notably Homer and Vergil, in incunabula, and in Oriental texts. It also contains Leonardo da Vinci's profusely illustrated Codex Atlanticus.
