angermanAlven[Ong´urmAnel´´vun] Pronunciation Key, river, c.280 mi (450 km) long, rising in VAsterbotten prov., W central Sweden, and flowing generally southeast through narrow lakes and past Solleftea and Kramfors to the Gulf of Bothnia at HArnOsand. The FaxeAlven is its chief tributary. There are numerous hydroelectric power plants on the river. SandObridge (866 ft/264 m long; opened 1943), one of the world's longest concrete arch bridges, spans the river.
