Benedictus[benudik´tus] Pronunciation Key, hymn of Zachary, taken from Luke 1.6879. It begins in Latin, "Benedictus Dominus Deus Israel" [blessed be the Lord God of Israel]. It is used at funerals and at lauds in the Roman Catholic Church and at morning prayer in the Church of England. Part of the Sanctus is also called Benedictus.
