Chile[chil´E, Span. chE´lA] Pronunciation Key - Government

Chile is governed under the constitution of 1981 as amended in 1989. It is a multiparty democracy with a directly elected president who serves a six-year term and has a cabinet of 20 ministers. The bicameral legislature consists of a 48-seat senate of both elected and appointed members and a 120-seat elected chamber of deputies. Administratively, Chile is divided into 13 regions.
