ChorzOw[hO´zhOOf] Pronunciation Key, city (1994 est. pop. 131,100), slaskie prov., S Poland. A rail junction and a center of the Katowice mining and industrial region, it is the site of the Kosciuszko Iron and Steel Works. Formerly known as KrOlewska Huta (Ger. KOnigshUtte), it passed from Germany to Poland in 1921. After 1945, the German-speaking majority was expelled and replaced by Poles. The city has a huge sports stadium.
