Cumberland Valley, 75 mi (121 km) long and from 15 to 20 mi (2432 km) wide, part of the great Appalachian valley, between the Potomac and Susquehanna rivers, W Md. and S Pa. It is a fertile farming area that is becoming urbanized. Chambersburg and Carlisle, Pa., and Hagerstown, Md., are in the valley.
