Vittorio De Sica[vEt-tOr´yO du sE´ku] Pronunciation Key, 190174, Italian film director and actor. His Shoeshine (1946), The Bicycle Thief (1948), and Umberto D. (1952) are classics of postwar Italian neorealism. Among his later works are Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow (1964), and The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1971), both of which won Academy Awards. He starred in Rossellini's General Della Rovere (1959) and many other films.
