JosE MarIa Eguren[hOsA´ mArE´A egOO´rAn] Pronunciation Key, 18821942, Peruvian poet. Originally devoted to modernismo, Eguren avoided its excesses and wrote terse, musical, and sometimes obscure poems. His strange images, symbols, and dreamlike visions were wrought into a framework of formal perfection. SimbOlicas (1911), La canciOn de las figuras (1916), and PoesIas (1929) are his best-known collections.
