Fuente Obejuna or Fuenteovejuna[both: fwAn´tA OvAhOO´nA] Pronunciation Key, town (1990 pop. 6,833), COrdoba prov., S Spain, in Andalusia. An important farm center with livestock-raising and food-processing industries, the town is especially noted for its honey. Lumber, coal, and lead are exploited in the area. In 1430, Fuente Obejuna was given to the Knights of Calatrava. The revolt of the people against a tyrannical governor is the subject of a play by Lope de Vega Carpio. The palace of the knights, formerly a Moorish castle, is now the parish church.
