Lamballe, Marie ThErEse Louise de Savoie-Carignan, princesse de[mArE´ tArez´ lwEz du sAvwA-kArEnyAN´, praNses´ du lANbAl´] Pronunciation Key, 174992, devoted friend and favorite of Queen Marie Antoinette of France. Extremely unpopular, she was killed by a mob during the French Revolution in the September massacres (1792), and her head was displayed on a pike under the queen's windows.
