Lehigh[lE´hI] Pronunciation Key, river, 103 mi (166 km) long, rising in NE Pa. and flowing generally SE to the Delaware River at Easton. It flows through the Lehigh Valley, where rich anthracite deposits made Allentown and Bethlehem (a famed steel producer) heavy industrial centers from the mid-19th through the mid-20th cent. High-tech industries are now important, and the valley is also agricultural.
