Maryville, city (1990 pop. 19,208), seat of Blount co., E Tenn.; settled around Fort Craig (built 1785), inc. as a town 1830, as a city 1927. With its twin city, Alcoa, it is an important center for the production of aluminum and aluminum products. Lumber and electronic parts are also manufactured, and corn and tobacco are grown. Limestone quarries are nearby. Samuel Houston went to Maryville in 1807; nearby is the log schoolhouse where he taught. Maryville College is in the city, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Tuckaleechee Caverns are in the area.
