Masai[mAsI´] Pronunciation Key, a people of E Africa, mainly in Kenya and Tanzania. They are mostly nomadic pastoralists, living off the milk, blood, and meat of their livestock. Men are initiated into the warrior age group, which is responsible for herding cattle and killing lions and other predators. The Masai have been particularly resistant to many of the cultural changes occurring in Africa.
