Mymensingh[mI´mensing] Pronunciation Key, town (1991 pop. 188,713), N central Bangladesh, on an old channel of the Brahmaputra River. It is a trading center for rice, jute, sugar cane, oilseeds, tobacco, mustard, and pulses. Once noted for the manufacture of glass bangles, Mymensingh now has jute-pressing and electrical-supply industries. In the town are Ananda Mohan College (an affiliate of Dhaka Univ.), an agricultural university, a veterinary training institute, and the Institute of Radiation Genetics and Plant Breeding.
