Pristina or Prishtina[both: prE´shtinA] Pronunciation Key, city (1991 pop. 155,449), S Serbia and Montenegro, in Serbia. It is the chief city and capital of Kosovo and the heart of the Albanian Kosovar separatist movement. Pristina, a commercial center with diverse industries, including woodworking, textiles, and food processing, suffered much damage during the 1999 Kosovo crisis. Lead and silver are mined nearby. Pristina was a capital of the Serbian empire in the 14th cent.
