Ferencz Toldy[fe´rents tOl´di] Pronunciation Key, 180575, father of Hungarian literary history. Toldy edited various literary journals and founded (1842) Nemzeti KOnyvtAr [national library] to produce the critical edition of Hungary's classic poets. He also wrote two histories of Hungarian literature (1851, 186465), a Hungarian grammar (1866), and a manual of Magyar poetry (1876).
