Anne Tyler 1941, American novelist, b. Minneapolis. Often set in the American South, her fiction portrays ordinary human life, particularly family relationships, with wit and perception. Among her novels are A Slipping down Life (1970), Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant (1982), The Accidental Tourist (1985), Breathing Lessons (1988; Pulitzer Prize), Saint Maybe (1991), Ladder of Years (1995), and Back When We Were Grownups (2001).
