Adams (A-duhmz), county ( 1,197 sq mi/3,100 sq km; 1990 pop. 265,038), N central Colo.; Brighton; 39°52'N 104°20'W. County is highly urbanized at W end, part of urbanized area of city of Denver, to S. Irrigated agr. area, with South Platte R. in W. Cattle, horses, wheat, hay, sunflowers, oats, barley, corn, sugar beets. Rocky Mt. Arsenal is in NW. Burr Lake State Park is in W. Problem-plagued Denver Internatl. Airport (1995) is located in W center of co., city of Denver has extended its limits out to it. This and other annexations of city of Denver that have accrued since 1990 will become part of Denver County in year 2000, decreasing the land areas of Adams and other cos. that surround it. This occurs every 10 years. Formed 1902.
