Aguanaval River
(ah-gwah-nah-VAHL), c.
250 mi/402 km long, N central Mexico; rises in
Sierra Madre Occidental 35 mi/56 km NW of
Zacatecas; flows N, through Zacatecas, Durango, and Coahuila, past
Rio Grande, Nieves, and San Juan de Guadalupe, and along
Durango-Coahuila border, to the Laguna de Viesca
9 mi/14.5 km NW of Viesca. Its lower course is
used, together with Nazas R., to irrigate fertile Laguna dist. Its
upper course is called Rio Grande in Zacatecas.
