13,855), extreme NE Iowa, bounded by Minn. (N) and Wis. (E; state line
here formed by the Mississippi); Waukon; 43°16'N 91°22'W.
Rolling prairie area drained by Upper Iowa R.; has hilly, forested
Little Switzerland dist. in E. Rich dairying region, producing
also hogs, poultry, cattle, corn; some mfg. Limestone quarries; lead,
zinc, and iron deposits. Extensive local flooding along rivers in 1993.
Lock and Dam No. 9 (Mississippi R.) above Harpers Ferry. Yellow River
State Forest in SE. Effigy Mounds Natl. Monument in SE corner.
Fish Farm Mounds State Preserve in NW. Luster Heights Correctional Camp
in SE by Mississippi R. Formed 1847.
