number of govt. and industrial research and development firms, many in
high-technology fields such as aerospace and nuclear research.
Educational facilities include Univ. of Michigan, Concordia Col., and
Washtenaw Community Col. Mfg. includes printing and publishing,
electronic, medical, and transportation equip., and precision
machinery. The city is also a medical center; in addition to the univ.
hospitals and medical school, it has a community hospital and a
neuropsychiatric hospital. Municipal Airport (S); Mus. of Art, Natural
Science Mus., Kelsey Mus. of Archaeology, Matthaei Botanical Gardens,
