Anoka (uh-NO-kuh), city (1990 pop. 17,192), Anoka co., E Minn., suburb 16 mi/26 km NNW of downtown Minneapolis, on the Miss. R. at its confluence with the Rum R.; 45°12'N 93°23'W. Originally a trading post and lumber town, it grew as a farm trade center. Mfg. (furniture, small-arms ammunition, electronic equip., light consumer goods, steel fabrication, industrial laundry machinery). Gateway North Industrial Airport to W. Anoka County Technical Col. and Anoka State Hosp. are here. Elm Creek Park Reserve to SW; Bunker Hill Park Reserve to E. Inc. 1878.
