lumber mills; bakery prods.; clothing, furniture, thermostats,
wholesale farm supply, rubber gaskets; poultry processing. Has fine
antebellum homes. Seat of Athens Col. (oldest in the state). Settled
1814, inc. 1818. Sacked and occupied by Federal troops 1862, recaptured
1864 by Gen. N.B. Forrest.
