Decatur co., SW Ga., on the Flint R.; 30°55'N 84°35'W. It grew up
around a fort, used by Andrew Jackson, that was constructed during the
Native Amer. Wars of 1817-1821. The city is a trade and industrial
center as well as an inland port and barge terminal near the head of
navigation on the Flint R. Mfg. includes carpets and yarns, printing
and publishing, cotton. Harvesting equip., brooms and mops, outdoor
lighting. Bainbridge Col. is a 2-year unit of the Univ. System of Ga.
