Baker , county ( 3,088 sq mi/7,998 sq km; 1990 pop. 15,317), NE Oregon; Baker City; 44°42'N 117°40'W. Bounded E by Snake R. (forms Idaho state boundary); Powder and North Powder rivers, Anthony Creek, and Burnt R. form part of N boundary. Drained by Powder R. Timber, gold, silver, copper. Barley, oats, potatoes; cattle, sheep; dairy prods. Blue Mts. in W; Wallowa Mts. in N; Oxbow and Brownlee dams on Snake R. in NE, S of Hells Canyon. Unity Lake State Park in SW; Farewell Bend State Park in SE corner; part of Hells Canyon Natl. Recreation Area in NE; part of Umatilla Natl. Forest in NE; parts of Wallowa-Whitman Natl. Forest in W and S; part of Malheur Natl. Forest in SW (including Monument Rock Wilderness Area). Formed 1862.
