parish, NE La., 18 mi/29 km NNE of Monroe,
near Bayou Bartholomew; 32°46'N 91°55'W. RR junction. An industrial
city in a cattle, cotton, rice, and timber area. Bastrop is the center
of the huge Monroe natural gas field (discovered 1916). Mfg. includes
wood prods., insecticides, apparel, farm equip., paper, aluminum
sulfate; printing and publishing; meat packing. Ga. Pacific State
