Wyo., to the E and NE of Yellowstone Natl. Park. Scenic, 2-lane,
switchback highway, built in 1932 at a cost of $2.5 million. Extends
66 mi/106 km between Cooke City and Red Lodge,
Mont. It rises to 10,947 ft/3,337 m,
affording a panoramic view of the alpine lakes and country
below. Accessible lakes and trailheads are frequent. Open from June to
September. An interpretive map is available at the Beartooth Ranger
Dist., 3 mi/4.8 km S of Red Lodge.
