Bernalillo (buhr-nuh-LEE-o), county ( 1,168 sq mi/3,025 sq km; 1990 pop. 480,577), N central N.Mex.; Albuquerque; 35°02'N 106°40'W. Cattle, some sheep; dairying; chiles, corn, hay, alfalfa, oats, barley, grapes. Limestone. Coal. Drained by Rio Grande and Rio Puerco. Part of Cibola Natl. Forest in E, Sandia Mts. and Manzano Range in E. Isleta Indian Reservation, including Isleta Pueblo, in S; parts of Laguna and Canoncito Indian Reservation in W; Indian Petroglyoph State Park in NW center; Petroglyph Natl. Monument and Shooting Range State Park in W center; San Gabriel and Rio Gabriel Nature Center state parks, in Albuquerque, at center of co.; Sandia State Recreational Area and Sandia Park Ski Area, at Sandia Crest peak, in NE. Formed 1852.
