Big Spirit Lake
, NW Iowa, largest glacial lake
(4 mi/6.4 km long,
3 mi/4.8 km wide) in state, almost at Minn.
state line, just N of Spirit Lake town. Resort area with Mini-Waken
State Park on N shore and Marble Beach State Park and fish hatchery on
S shore. Region was scene of Native Amer. massacre (1857), commemorated
by monument at nearby Arnolds Park.
