Bloodsworth Island
, low marshy isl.
(c.5 mi/8 km long,
4 mi/6.4 km wide), Dorchester co., E Md., in
Chesapeake Bay, on Tangier Sound (E) and Hooper Strait (N), and just N
of South Marsh Isl. Once home to a dozen families, since 1942 it has
only been used as a naval shelling range. Like the other isls. of the
bay and the Eastern Shore itself, it has been eroding at the rate of
8 ft/2.4 m annually since the 1800s.
