mi/4,033 sq km; 1990 pop. 398,978), E central Fla., on the
Atlantic Ocean (E); Titusville; 28°18'N 80°42'W. Lowland
region bordered by barrier beaches enclosing Indian R. and Banana R.
lagoons, and Merritt Isl.; W part is a marshy peat area drained by St.
Johns R., which forms several lakes here. Included in Indian R. dist.,
which is noted for its citrus fruit (esp. oranges). Currently a booming
growth area undergoing urbanization. Also vegetable farming, tourism,
and fishing industry. Formed 1844.
