44°29'N 73°13'W. The largest city in the state, it is a port of
entry, a year-round resort, and a major industrial center. Mfg.
(electronics and computer parts, furniture, machinery); dairy; maple
sugar and other food prods. Battery Park was the scene of an abortive
Br. naval attack (Aug. 3, 1813) during the War of 1812. Seat of the
Univ. of Vt. and Trinity and Champlain cols. Burlington Internatl.
Airport is in S Burlington. Amer. Revolutionary hero Ethan Allen spent
his last years near Burlington village (part of his farm is included in
Ethan Allen Park) and is buried nearby. The Burlington Free
Press (founded 1827) became Vt.'s 1st daily newspaper in 1848.
