126 mi/203 km long, N Colo.; rises at
Continental Divide in NW corner of Rocky Mt. Natl. Park, Larimer co.,
flows N through Roosevelt Natl. Forest, E past Poudro Park, and SE past
Fort Collins, Windsor, and Greely, to South Platte R.
5 mi/8 km E of Greeley. Waters sugar beet,
livestock region. Receives water from Laramie R. through Laramie-Poudre
(or Greeley-Poudre) Tunnel (c.2 mi/3.2 km
long; finished 1911), used to irrigate 125,000 acres/50,588
ha in Larimer and Weld cos. Also called Poudre R.
