Includes Cross L. (resort), now part of Shreveport, and part of Caddo
L. on Texas boundary in NW. Large oil production, esp. in N; natural
gas wells, oil and gas refineries, pipelines. Agr. (chiefly cotton;
also berries, peaches, corn, sorghum, hay, home gardens, nursery crops,
vegetables, rice; cattle, horses, hogs, poultry, exotic fowl;
dairying); timber; logging. Varied mfg. (chemicals, paper, glass
prods., metal prods., industrial machinery, motor vehicles). Milling of
cotton, cottonseed. Shipping on Red R. Soda L. State Wildlife Area in N
center, Black Bayou L. in N, Wallace L. on S boundary. Named after the
Caddo Indian tribe. Formed 1838.
