Caloosahatchee R.; 26°38'N 82°00'W. It is the major suburb of Ft.
Myers, and is mostly a residential city that has grown rapidly along
with the SW Fla. area. There are 2 industrial parks in the vicinity,
and boatbuilding is an industry. A branch of the Univ. of S. Fla. is
located in nearby Ft. Myers. Cape Coral has a cultural center and a
historical mus. The city's pop. more than doubled bet. 1980 and 1990,
and it was the fastest-growing city in the U.S. during that decade.
