Essentially a peninsula. Bounded on the N by Tuckahoe R. and Great
Cedar Swamp, on the E by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the W by Delaware
Bay; drained by Dennis Creek to the W and Great Cedar Swamp Creek to
NE. Southernmost co. of N.J., settled in the 17th cent., with a long
heritage of fishing, oystering, seafaring, and farming. Beach resorts
at Cape May city, and along Atlantic Ocean barrier isls. at Wildwood,
Avalon, and Sea Isle City each have distinctive character.
