range of White Mts. lying S of the Androscoggin R., E of Presidential
Range, in White Mt. Natl. Forest. Carter Dome
(4,843 ft/1,476 m) is the highest peak; other
major peaks are Mt. Hight (4,690 ft/1,430 m);
South Carter Mt. (4,458 ft/1,359 m); Middle
Carter Mt. (4,645 ft/1,416 m); North Carter
Mt. (4,539 ft/1,383 m); Imp Mt.
(3,708 ft/1,130 m), site of Imp Face, a
striking rock profile; Mt. Moriah
(4,041 ft/1,232 m); Middle Moriah Mt.
(3,775 ft/1,151 m); and Shelburne Moriah Mt.
(3,748 ft/1,142 m). Appalachian Trail follows
crest of range.
