Cascada de Basaseachic
(kahs-KAH-dah dai bah-sah-se-AH-cheek),
a natl. park, in W Chihuahua, Mexico,
174 mi/280 km W of the city of Chihuahua and
112 mi/180 km W of Cuauhtemoc, on a
paved road [Mexico 16]. The park is on the N part of the Sierra
Tarahumara. It has the tallest waterfall in Mexico and the 4th-highest
waterfall in N. Amer. The water falls through an arch in the rock from
a height of 1,017 ft/310 m into open rock
columns. Found in La Candamena Canyon, it is surrounded by
vertical walls 1,640 ft/500 m tall and dense
pine and evergreen vegetation.
