Cedar Falls
, city (1990 pop. 34,298), Black Hawk co., N Iowa,
on the Cedar R., adjoins Waterloo on E; 42°31'N 92°27'W. It
developed as a milling center in the late 19th cent. after the coming
of the RR; its name is derived from the cedar tree. The town of North
Cedar merged with Cedar Falls. Largely residential, the city has light
mfg. (machining, agr. equip., printing). Cedar Falls is the seat of the
Univ. of Northern Iowa and of the Evangelical Campgrounds, scene of the
annual Interdenominational Bible Conference. It has a Historical
Society Mus. and George Wyth State Park is in the E part of the city,
on the boundary with Waterloo. Inc. 1854.
