Chariton River
, c.280 mi/451 km long,
N Mo. and S Iowa; rises in S central Iowa; flows SE and S to Missouri
R. above Glasgow; mostly channelized in Missouri with a new mouth on
the Missouri R. 10 miles above its natural mouth. Before
channelization, it received East Chariton R. (or East Fork), rising S
of Kirksville, Mo., and flowing c.90 mi/145 km
S and SW. East Fork now has its own mouth on Missouri R. East Fork has
Long Branch Lake reservoir; Thomas Hill Lake (reservoir) on Middle
Fork, a tributary of East Fork.
