near Arkansas R.; 35°05'N 92°27'W. Toad Suck Lock and Dam to E; in
a farm and cotton area. It is a trade and industrial center. Mfg.
(machinery, paper prods., wood prods., transportation equip.,
chemicals, consumer goods, printing, apparel, furniture). Seat of
Hendrix Col., the Univ. of Central Ark., and Central Baptist Col. of
Ark. Conway Reservoir to SE, offers excellent hunting and
fishing. Settled (c.1865) near the site of a French trading post
