Cuevas de Camuy
(KWAI-vahs dai kah-MOO-ee) or Camuy Caves,
cave system in NW P.R., in karst region W of Arecibo. One
of the largest cave systems in the Western Hemisphere, comprised of a
series of limestone sinkholes (including Sumidero de Tres Pueblos),
connected by the Camuy R. World's highest peak discharge of an
underground river. Very large sinkholes occur along its underground
path towards the Atlantic. Important tourist attraction, with visitors
center at Parque de las Cavernas.
