the Alleghenies, at Dans Rock c.5 mi/8 km SW
of Cumberland, Md. Runs NE c.30 mi/48 km from
North Branch of the Potomac just E of Westernport, Md., to Hyndman, Pa.
Named after Daniel Cresap, identified by different sources as
the father and son of Col. Thomas Cresap who settled nearby after the
Revolutionary War. Daniel may been killed there in a gunfight or in a
struggle with a mother bear and her 2 cubs.
