c.100 mi/161 km SE of Fairbanks, on Delta R.,
S of its influence with Tanana R.; 64°03'N 145°42'W. Elev.
1,180 ft/360 m. Located on Alaska Highway (Rt.
2) at N terminus of Richardson Highway (Rt. 4). State agr. project
begun in 1978 has led to establishment of over 12,000
acres/4,856 ha of privately owned cultivated land. Barley is
main crop; also grown are oats, potatoes, grass seed and hay; dairying;
pigs, beef cattle; fishing. Tourism. Fort Greeley cold weather testing
center.
