Duchesne (doo-SHAIN), county ( 3,256 sq mi/8,433 sq km; 1990 pop. 12,645), NE Utah; Duchesne; 40°16'N 110°26'W. Agr. area bordering on Colo. and served by irrigation projects on Strawberry and Duchesne rivers and L. Fork. Wheat, barley, alfalfa, sugar beets, dairy prods.; cattle, sheep. Kings Peak (13,528 ft/4,123 m), highest point in Utah, in N edge of co., in Uinta Range. Widely scattered parts of Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservaton in N central and S central parts of co. Small part of Wasatch Natl. Forest in NW corner. Starvation Reservoir and State Park near center. Large part of Ashley Natl. Forest, including part of Uinta Range and part of High Uintas Wilderness Area, in N. Smaller part of Ashley Natl. Forest in S center. Formed 1914.
