Eureka , (yoo-REE-kuh), county ( 4,180 sq mi/10,826 sq km; 1990 pop. 1,547), N central Nev.; Eureka; 39°58'N 116°16'W. Mt. region crossed in N by Humboldt R. Gold, silver; cattle. Chief ranges are Diamond Mts., form E central boundary, and Cortez Mts. (S of Humboldt R.). Part of Antelope Valley is in S. Formed 1873. Part of Toiyabe Natl Forest is SW, in Monitor Range. Former central mining dist. to Eureka. Geyser basin in N, on S side of Humboldt, c. 20 mi/32 km E of Battle Mt. Parts of Tuscarora Mts. and Emigrant Pass on far N.
