172 sq mi/445 sq km), Hardin,
Meade, and Bullitt cos., N Ky., 25 mi/40 km
SSW of Louisville, near Ohio R. Drained by Salt and Rolling Fork
rivers. City of Radcliffe to S, town of West Point to N. Est.
1917 as a training camp in World War I. It became a permanent post in
1932. Godman Army Airfield was opened in 1918. It currently serves as
airport and heliport for training purposes. In the steel and concrete
vaults of the U.S. Bullion Depository (W part), the bulk of the
nation's gold bullion is stored. Of interest is the Patton Mus. of
Cavalry and Armor. Tioga Falls Natl. Recreation Trail and Bridges to
the Past, 3 stone bridges on old Louisville and Nashville Turnpike, in
N part of reservation.
