Originally planned (late 1960s) as a govt.-financed new town, the
site is instead being developed by private interests. It is a mix of
town houses, high-rise apartments, and condominiums on hills
overlooking much of Wash., D.C. Since 1975, some 1,600 housing units
have been completed.
