Mitchell; 43°04'N 98°34'W. Max. capacity 6,300,000 acre-ft. Formed
by Fort Randall Dam (170 ft/ 52 m high), built
(1957) by Army Corps of Engineers for flood control; also used for
power generation, irrigation, navigation, and recreation. Yankton
Indian Reservation and Fort Randall Historic Site near dam; Snake Creek
and Platt Creek state recreational areas on NE shore.
