dairying). Some mfg. at Ironwood. Resorts. Much of co. is in Ottawa
Natl. Forest, L. Gogebic is on N boundary. Gogebic Range crosses N part
of co. Many small lakes and waterfalls, especially in S and E.
Indianhead Mt., Big Powderhorn Mt., and Mt. Zion ski areas in W; W part
of Porcupine Mts. State Park in NW, Lake Gogebic State Park on W side
of L. Gogebic; Ottawa Natl. Forest in all but W end of co. N boundary,
W Ontonagon co., and L. Superior share Central/Eastern time
zone boundary, 1 of only 4 cos. in Mich. (all on Upper Peninsula)
within Central time zone. Organized 1887.
